Every house has a planetary guide. Known as the house ruler, this planet helps reveal how the themes of a house express themselves and connects one landscape of the chart to another.
If the houses are landscapes, house rulers are the guides that help us navigate them.
Every house begins with a sign on its cusp, or doorway.
That sign is associated with a planetary ruler.
The ruler of the sign becomes the ruler of the house.
For example:
A First House beginning in Aries is ruled by Mars.
A Fourth House beginning in Cancer is ruled by the Moon.
A Tenth House beginning in Capricorn is ruled by Saturn.
