Nettle
A mineral-rich herbal infusion prepared over several hours to provide gentle, everyday nourishment and support. Nettle infusion is a foundational preparation that invites consistency, patience, and sustainable care.
Nettle is one of the great nourishing herbs of the apothecary. While many herbal teas are prepared for their flavour or fragrance, nettle is often chosen for something quieter: its remarkable abundance of naturally occurring minerals and its ability to become part of everyday care.
Unlike lighter herbal teas, nettle is traditionally prepared as a long infusion. Giving the leaves several hours to steep allows more of their nourishing qualities to move gently into the water, creating a deep green infusion that feels both grounding and restorative.
This is not a preparation for immediate change. Nettle invites a different relationship—one built through consistency, patience, and small acts of care repeated over time.
For one litre:
1 ounce (approximately 28 g) dried nettle leaf
1 litre freshly boiled water
Optional:
A slice of lemon
Honey, if desired
Preparation
Place the dried nettle into a heatproof glass jar or teapot.
Pour one litre of freshly boiled water over the leaves, ensuring they are fully submerged.
Cover the container immediately and allow the infusion to steep for at least four hours. Many herbalists prefer preparing it in the evening and allowing it to infuse overnight.
Strain the leaves through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
Enjoy at room temperature, gently warmed, or chilled. The finished infusion may be stored in the refrigerator for up to two days.
A Gentle Companion To...

Nettle infusion lends itself beautifully to everyday rhythms rather than special occasions. A jar waiting in the refrigerator can become a quiet invitation to nourish yourself throughout the day.
It pairs well with seasons of rebuilding, periods of increased physical or emotional demand, and times when you simply wish to support yourself through consistent, gentle care.
Rather than reaching for it only when something feels wrong, nettle reminds us that nourishment can become part of ordinary life.
Notes
Using What You Have
Use dried nettle intended for herbal preparations from a reputable source. Because nettle is traditionally prepared as a long infusion, its flavour is fuller and earthier than many other herbal teas. The deep green colour that develops is a natural result of the longer steep and a sign that the herb has had time to fully infuse.
Storage
Store dried nettle in an airtight glass jar away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight to preserve its colour and flavour.
A Gentle Reminder
If you're new to nettle, its rich flavour may be unfamiliar at first. Give yourself time to become acquainted with it. Like many herbs, appreciation often grows through returning to it with curiosity rather than expectation.
Carry This Forward

Nettle rarely asks for attention. It works quietly, becoming part of the background of daily life rather than demanding to be noticed.
There is wisdom in that.
Not every act of care has to be dramatic. Sometimes the practices that shape us most are the ones we return to again and again: filling the kettle, steeping the leaves, pouring another glass, trusting that steady nourishment has its own quiet rhythm.
