Sodalite

The Truth Keeper

Sodalite sits at the meeting place between understanding and expression. It is often associated with communication, logic, and truth, but its deeper work begins before anything is spoken. Sodalite asks whether we can recognize our own knowing beneath the opinions, expectations, and interpretations surrounding us. It supports the movement from internal recognition toward authentic expression: first noticing what feels true, then allowing that truth to become clear enough to name. Its medicine is not certainty. It is the growing ability to distinguish your own voice from the many voices you have learned to carry.

ENERGETIC SIGNATURE

Sodalite carries an energy of inner alignment and truthful expression. Its movement begins inward, with discernment and self-recognition, before moving outward through language. It helps reveal where inherited narratives, external expectations, or habitual explanations may be obscuring something more personally true. Sodalite does not demand disclosure; sometimes knowing something clearly for yourself is enough. When expression is needed, it supports the possibility that what is spoken can remain connected to what was genuinely felt and understood.

BODY RESONANCE

Sodalite can accompany moments when something is sensed before it can be clearly explained. The body often registers resonance, hesitation, tension, or recognition before the mind has found language for the experience. Sodalite invites a pause within that interval. Rather than immediately deciding what a sensation means, it encourages enough attention to notice it first. Over time, this creates a bridge between perception and expression, allowing communication to arise from greater internal contact rather than reflex or expectation.

The Lore

Sodalite is a sodium-rich mineral typically recognized by its deep blue color, often patterned with white calcite. Although discovered in Greenland in the early nineteenth century, significant deposits found later in Canada helped establish it as an ornamental stone. One particularly rich blue variety became known as Princess Blue after Princess Patricia of Connaught selected the stone for interior decoration. Its blue coloration has contributed to contemporary associations with communication, insight, reason, and truth, while its contrasting patterns offer an apt visual metaphor for bringing distinct pieces of information into relationship.

PREPARATION & USE

Keep Sodalite near a journal, writing space, desk, or somewhere conversations and reflection naturally occur. Hold it during moments when you are trying to find language for something that feels difficult to articulate. Instead of beginning with What should I say?, first ask What do I actually know about this? It can also accompany reflective writing, difficult conversations, study, or any practice involving the translation of inner experience into language.

RITUALS & PREPARATIONS

Sodalite is particularly suited to Full and Waning Moon practices. The illumination of the Full Moon can reveal what has become clear enough to acknowledge, while the Waning Moon provides space to separate personal truth from narratives that no longer belong. It can accompany truth-telling, journaling, boundary work, difficult conversations, discernment practices, and rituals centered on releasing beliefs or expectations that have obscured your own voice.
