All Seasons

The Dark Moon is the quietest part of the lunar cycle. This simple ritual invites you to pause, rest, and make space before beginning again with the New Moon.

Honor the pause. Trust what is quietly taking shape.

Just before the New Moon, the sky grows dark.

For a brief time, the Moon disappears from view. Nothing seems to be happening, yet beneath the surface the cycle is quietly preparing to begin again.

We live in a world that often celebrates constant movement. The Dark Moon offers a different kind of wisdom. It reminds us that rest is not something we earn after finishing everything. It is part of the rhythm that makes growth possible.

You do not need to become someone new tonight.

You only need to allow yourself to be still.

Purpose

To create space for rest, integration, and quiet reflection before beginning a new lunar cycle.

When To Return To This Ritual

Return during the Dark Moon, in the day or two before the New Moon, or anytime your body and mind are asking for genuine rest.

Gather

  • A candle or soft light (optional)

  • A journal

  • A blanket or comfortable place to sit

  • A warm drink, if you would enjoy one

  • Fifteen to twenty quiet minutes

Natural Companions

If this resonates with you...

Natural Companions
  • Amethyst: A calming companion for quiet reflection and gentle inner listening.
  • Lepidolite: A supportive companion during times of emotional exhaustion or transition.

  • Lavender: A familiar ally for rest, softness, and evening rituals.

  • Chamomile: A gentle companion that encourages relaxation and comfort.

  • Mugwort: Traditionally associated with dreams, intuition, and the liminal space before new beginnings.

Choose only what feels supportive. Nothing is required for the ritual to be meaningful.

Prepare Your Space

Dim the lights if you can.

If you have a permanent altar, you may wish to sit beside it. If not, simply choose a quiet corner where you feel comfortable and undisturbed.

Allow the room to feel peaceful rather than ceremonial.

Before You Begin

external-file_edited_edited.png

Take several slow breaths.

Notice any impulse to fill the silence with planning, problem-solving, or productivity.

For the next little while, gently set those thoughts aside.

There is nothing to accomplish here.

Step One

Close your eyes for a few moments.

Notice how your body feels after this lunar cycle.

Where do you feel energized?

Where do you feel tired?

Simply observe without trying to fix anything.

Step Two

Think back over the past month.

Rather than listing achievements, ask yourself:

  • What did I learn?

  • What surprised me?

  • What would I like to carry forward?

  • What am I ready to leave behind?

Write whatever comes naturally.

Step Three

Offer yourself a small act of kindness.

Wrap yourself in a blanket.

Prepare another cup of tea.

Read a few pages of a comforting book.

Sit quietly without reaching for your phone.

Choose something that reminds your nervous system it is safe to soften.

Step Four

Write one sentence that begins:

In this next cycle, I hope to feel...

Notice that the sentence begins with a feeling rather than a goal.

Let your answer remain open and gentle.

Step Five

Close your journal.

Allow yourself to leave this ritual without making a plan or setting an intention just yet.

The New Moon will invite you into a new beginning soon enough.

Tonight, your only practice is to rest.

Blow out the candle if you lit one, and carry this quiet with you into the days ahead.

Reflection

Nature moves in seasons.

There are moments of growth, moments of harvest, moments of release, and moments that appear empty but are quietly preparing what comes next.

The Dark Moon reminds us that our lives follow those same rhythms.

Stillness is not an interruption.

It is part of becoming.

Journal Prompt

What changes when I allow myself to rest before asking myself to begin again?

Closing Blessing

May you find comfort in stillness, trust in what cannot yet be seen, and permission to rest without needing to justify it. May the quiet prepare you gently for whatever comes next.
