The Work of Becoming

On knowing what matters, meeting our limits, and finding another way forward.

IN THIS WEEK'S ANCHOR

THE ANCHOR

Word: Discernment

Mantra: I can change how I move forward without abandoning what matters to me.

Discernment asks us to look honestly at what we're doing, why we're doing it and what it costs us. It doesn't require us to question every decision indefinitely, nor does it demand that we push through every obstacle simply because we've committed ourselves to something.

We can recognize that a goal matters while reconsidering how we're pursuing it. We can acknowledge our limitations without treating them as failures. And we can make room for the possibility that what we want may remain the same even as our understanding of how to reach it changes.

THE SHAPE OF THE WEEK

The larger currents shaping how this week may feel.

The week begins with the First Quarter Moon in Capricorn on Sunday, bringing us to the first real turning point since the Libra New Moon. What felt possible when we first set our intentions may now be meeting the realities of time, energy and responsibility. Capricorn asks us to consider what we can actually sustain, but that doesn't mean every obstacle is a sign we've chosen the wrong direction. Sometimes we're simply discovering what something will require of us, and whether there's a better way to go about it.

By Tuesday, Venus retrograde in Scorpio squares Pluto in Aquarius, bringing some of our deeper fears and attachments into focus. We may find ourselves questioning what we're holding on to, why something matters so much, or whether our need to control an outcome is making it harder to enjoy what we're trying to create. With Venus already moving backward, these questions may feel familiar. Try to notice whether you're reconsidering something because your understanding has genuinely changed, or because uncertainty is making it difficult to trust your original choice.

Friday brings a significant shift as the Sun enters Scorpio, followed by Venus meeting the Sun at the heart of her retrograde cycle. After weeks of reviewing our relationships, values and priorities, this conjunction can offer a different perspective on what remains important. We may not have figured out exactly how to move forward, but we might begin to recognize what we still want to move forward with. Sometimes questioning something doesn't lead us away from it. Sometimes it helps us understand why we chose it in the first place.

Then on Saturday, Mercury stations retrograde in Scorpio, adding another layer of reflection to an already introspective period. Conversations, plans and assumptions may deserve a second look, particularly where something has been left unsaid or misunderstood. But reviewing our choices doesn't mean we have to undo them all. We can make adjustments, gather information and take our time without putting everything we've built back on trial.

The larger invitation this week may be to recognize the difference between something that needs to change and something that simply needs a different way forward. We don't have to push through every difficulty, but we don't have to abandon what matters to us because it's become difficult either. There may be more room between those two choices than we first imagined.

CURRENT SKY

Waxing Moon

The Moon is waxing, and Sunday's First Quarter in Capricorn brings us to the point where intentions begin meeting real-life demands. This is a time to notice what's working, what needs adjusting, and what deserves our continued care. Progress doesn't always mean pushing harder. Sometimes it means finding a way to keep going that we can actually sustain.

AROUND THE WHEEL

Your Week Ahead

Begin with your Rising sign for how you move through and meet the world. Then read your Sun and Moon for more context—your Sun for the self you're growing into, and your Moon for what you're feeling and needing beneath the surface.

ARIES

10th house - Sunday's Capricorn First Quarter Moon brings attention to your career, responsibilities and the expectations attached to the role you play in the world. You may be questioning whether the work you're doing still reflects the life you want to build. With Venus retrograde in your eighth house, shared finances, obligations or emotional entanglements may also influence your decisions. Before deciding that something isn't working, consider whether it's the direction itself or the weight of everything you've been carrying alongside it.

TAURUS

9th house - The First Quarter Moon falls in your ninth house of learning, beliefs and the future you're imagining for yourself. Something you once felt certain about may be more complicated now that you're trying to put it into practice. Meanwhile, Venus retrograde in your seventh house invites you to reconsider how your relationships support or shape your choices. You don't need everyone to understand the direction you're taking, but it's worth noticing where you've been adjusting your hopes to accommodate someone else's expectations.

8th house - Shared resources, financial commitments and emotional responsibilities come into focus with the Capricorn First Quarter Moon in your eighth house. You may be recognizing that an arrangement you've managed for some time needs a closer look. Venus retrograde and Mercury's approaching retrograde in your sixth house also bring attention to your working rhythms and daily capacity. Rather than trying to solve everything at once, begin with what feels consistently difficult to maintain. There may be a practical adjustment that gives you more room than you realize.

CANCER

7th house - The First Quarter Moon activates your seventh house of relationships and agreements, asking you to consider whether the expectations between you and someone else still feel fair. This doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with the relationship. It may simply mean that your needs have changed, or that an old arrangement no longer fits your circumstances. With Venus retrograde in your fifth house of creativity and pleasure, it's also worth asking how much room you're making for what you genuinely enjoy, rather than only what others need from you.

6th house - Your sixth house of work, health and everyday responsibilities is highlighted by Sunday's First Quarter Moon. You may have a clearer sense of what needs doing than of how you're going to find the energy to do it. As Venus retrograde moves through your fourth house, questions about home, family and the kind of environment you need may become increasingly important. A routine isn't successful simply because it looks organized. It also needs to leave enough space for you to live comfortably within it.

5th house - The Capricorn First Quarter Moon falls in your fifth house of creativity, pleasure and personal expression. Something you love may be asking for more time or effort than you expected, and you might be wondering whether that means you've taken on too much. With Venus retrograde and Mercury slowing in your third house, pay attention to the way you're speaking to yourself about the process. There's a difference between wanting to improve your work and making it impossible to enjoy creating it.

4th house - Home, family and your sense of belonging come into focus as the First Quarter Moon moves through your fourth house. You may be considering what needs to change in your private life so that it better supports the person you're becoming. Venus retrograde in your second house brings money, resources and personal values into the conversation. Not every choice can be made on preference alone, but practical considerations don't have to erase what matters to you. There may be a more workable middle ground.

SCORPIO

3rd house - The First Quarter Moon in your third house brings attention to conversations, decisions and the many small demands that fill your days. Something you've been thinking about may now need to be spoken aloud or approached more practically. With Venus retrograde in Scorpio and Mercury preparing to turn retrograde there too, this is also a deeply personal period of reconsideration. You may be changing your mind about how you want to present yourself or what you're willing to agree to. Give yourself time to understand those changes before explaining them to everyone else.

SAGITTARIUS

2nd house - The Capricorn First Quarter Moon highlights your second house of money, possessions and the resources available to you. A goal may be important, but the question this week is whether the way you're pursuing it makes sense for your circumstances. Venus retrograde in your twelfth house suggests that some of your uncertainty may be tied to private worries or needs you haven't fully acknowledged. You don't have to prove the value of something by exhausting yourself in pursuit of it. Consider what a more sustainable investment of your time and energy might look like.

CAPRICORN

1st house - With the First Quarter Moon in Capricorn, the tension between your own needs and the expectations surrounding you may feel especially personal. You might be recognizing that you've changed, even if the structures of your life haven't quite caught up. Venus retrograde in your eleventh house asks you to reconsider the future you're working toward and the people or communities you hope to share it with. You can remain committed to a goal while allowing your understanding of success to evolve.

12th house - The First Quarter Moon falls in your twelfth house, drawing attention to what happens behind the scenes: your need for quiet, your private concerns and the limits you may have been overlooking. With Venus retrograde in your tenth house of career and public life, there could be a noticeable contrast between what you're trying to accomplish and what you actually have the capacity to carry. This week may be less about abandoning an ambition and more about recognizing what it will require to pursue it without losing yourself in the process.

pisces.png
PISCES

11th house - Your eleventh house of community, friendships and long-term hopes is activated by Sunday's First Quarter Moon. A dream for the future may be meeting practical questions about time, support or whether the people around you share your vision. Venus retrograde in your ninth house also invites you to revisit the beliefs and experiences that shaped that dream in the first place. You don't have to hold on to every part of an old plan to honour what originally inspired it. Some changes may bring you closer to the life you imagined.

EARTHLY ALLY

Oak

The Quiet Strength of Deep Roots

We tend to think of strength as the ability to withstand whatever comes our way, but an oak's strength tells a more complicated story. It grows in relationship with the soil, the weather, the space around it and the countless living things that support it. Its roots need nourishment just as much as its branches need room to spread. I think there's something worth remembering in that, especially when we're questioning our own capacity. Perhaps being strong doesn't always mean finding a way to carry more. Sometimes it means recognizing what we need in order to keep growing.

PRACTICE FOR THE WEEK

What Am I Actually Choosing?

A Ritual for Finding What Still Matters

When something becomes difficult, it's tempting to think we have only two choices: push through or walk away. But there's often quite a bit of room between those two possibilities. This week's practice invites you to take one thing you've been questioning and look at it from a few different angles. What drew you to it in the first place? What is it asking of you now? And could you change the way you're approaching it without giving up what you still love? You don't have to reach a decision today. Sometimes making a little room for another possibility is enough to begin.

A QUESTION TO CARRY
What am I still choosing because it matters to me, and what could I change about the way I'm pursuing it?
